Hiring Procedures Part-time Faculty

All faculty positions, which are vacant at the same time, will be advertised in a block ad in the education section of The Charlotte Observer.

Applications for part-time teaching are accepted in the Human Resources Department or directly in a division office and then forwarded to Human Resources for record purposes.

The following procedures are the responsibility of the immediate supervisor:

  1. Review applications and select those applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for the position.  If considering an applicant who will be credentialed by using Evidence of Competency in lieu of the required degree, submit documentation using the Guide to Porfolios sheet.  The portfolio is reviewed at the next meeting of the Faculty Credentials committee.  A recommendation is made to the Vice President for Instruction and the credentials office notifies the Division.
  2. Interview the selected applicants.
  3. Check applicant references.
  4. Secure official transcripts prior to employment.  Submit a completed credentials form and official transcripts to the Credentials Office.
  5. Offer the part time position to the applicant.
  6. Complete the information block on the application form for new hires (Dept Name, Dept #, etc.)
  7. Have the applicant complete the following forms:
    • U.S. Department of Justice I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form
    • North Carolina NC-4 Employee’s Withholding form
    • U.S. Federal tax withholding form
  8. Submit a packet to the Human Resources Department consisting of:
    • The completed CPCC Employment Application
    • U.S. Department of Justice I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form
    • North Carolina NC-4 Employee’s Withholding form
    • U.S. Federal tax withholding form
  9. Enter a part-time teaching contract, after the contract prints and is stamped credentials approved, secure signatures of the employee and the immediate supervisor, and then forward the contract to the Human Resources Department.
