Curriculum Development and Revision

New Courses, Revision of Courses and Program Revisions

  1. The initiator will obtain the appropriate proposal form from the North Carolina Curriculum Procedures Reference Manual (Chapter 15).
  2. The initiator of the proposal will complete the form using the input of colleagues and the division director and, when appropriate, the input of other faculty, division directors who will be affected by the proposal, advisory committees, potential employers, and other colleges.
  3. The initiator of the proposal will initiate the approval process by seeking the signature of the division director.
  4. The division director will, as part of the procedure, obtain the signature of the appropriate dean and submit the course proposal or revision to the Curriculum Review Committee (CPCC).
  5. After the proposal has been reviewed and endorsed by the Curriculum Review Committee, the dean will submit the course proposal to the Vice President for Instruction for approval.
  6. The Vice President for Instruction will submit the proposal to the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) for approval by the Curriculum Review Committee of the North Carolina Community College System. If the proposal is a revision to a curriculum standard, State Board approval is required.
  7. Upon notification of approval from the System Office, the division director will submit the program of study to appropriate personnel for processing by the Program Services staff of the North Carolina Community College System. Programs of study submission deadlines are as follows:

  1. After System Office personnel have approved the program of study change and released an electronic approval notice to CPCC personnel, the division director will notify the Graduation Office, counselors, faculty, and update the College catalog.

New Programs

  1. The initiator will obtain the appropriate proposal form from the North Carolina Curriculum Procedures Reference Manual (Chapter 15).
  2. The initiator of the proposal will complete the form using the input of colleagues and the division director and, when appropriate, the input of other faculty, division directors who will be affected by the proposal, advisory committees, potential employers, and other colleges.
  3. The dean will supervise necessary documentation and consult with other deans. The dean will also contact the NCCCS and other academic institutions.
  4. The dean will submit the proposal to the Curriculum Review Committee (CPCC).
  5. The dean will submit the proposal to the Vice President for Instruction.
  6. The Vice President for Instruction may consult the Deans Council, the College Cabinet, and/or the Instructional Programs and Institutional Support Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  7. The Vice President for Instruction may notify the initiator of the proposal of its approval at this point. The approval of the College Cabinet and the President and the endorsement of the Board of Trustees may be required prior to notification. When a proposal does not receive approval, the Vice President for Instruction will consult with the appropriate dean.
  8. The State Board of Community Colleges must approve changes in curricula and proposals for new curricula.
  9. Upon notification of approval from the System Office, the division director will submit the program of study to appropriate personnel for processing by the Program Services staff of the North Carolina Community College System. Programs of study submission deadlines are as follows:
