ADA Compliance and Course Syllabus

At the beginning of every term, instructors must submit a copy of their course syllabi to be kept on record in the division office.

In order to ensure that students know of the availability of supports for students with Disabilities, please include the following information as part of either the class syllabus/outline or other handouts during the first day or two of class:

Accommodations: Students who have a documented disability or who may think that they may have a learning problem may contact the office of Services for Students with Disabilities. Instructors will provide the necessary accommodations upon the advice of the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.

For students who make request for accommodations, ask to see the letter from the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities outlining what accommodations have been approved. Faculty are legally required to comply with the accommodations listed on the letter. If students ask for accommodations in addition to those listed, refer the students back to the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities for further accommodations’ approvals.

Instructors who believe they have a student who needs special accommodations but the student has not asked for them, may suggest privately to the student that he/she may want to talk with a counselor in the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities.
