For those interested in speaking French and in learning more about Francophone culture, there are opportunities to take advantage of right here in Charlotte. Let me name a few!

  • French in Action is on Cable Channel 17 (CPCC TV Channel) every Wednesday morning and evening 7 (Fre111) and 7:30 (Fre112)

  • New! French Literature Club! Discuss French literature in comfortable setting.

  • The International House of Charlotte holds French conversation hours every Tuesday from Noon to 1 pm and on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. 322 Hawthorne Ln. 28204 Call:333-8099. You can get Language Lab credit for attending these sessions (with appropriate verification).
  • There is a world-wide organization of Francophones and French loving folks called the Alliance Française. Charlotte has its own chapter and sponsors lots of neat events/contests/etc.
    You can get a student membership/newsletter etc. for $10. Call for information 543-7076 (The call is an experience in itself. It will start out in French then go to English with the lovely French accent!) National Organization: Alliance Française USA.

  • Charlotte has a "Sister City in France. It is Limoges.

  • In the CPCC Multimedia Language Learning Lab, we have a "Language Exchange" box. You can sign up to exchange a half hour of English conversation with a half hour of French conversation. We have several francophone students trying to learn English who would love to trade time and lessons with you.
