Recommendations for Personal Computers

Due to the wide variety of hardware and software configurations, ITS is unable to provide support for personally owned computing equipment.  CPCC recommends the following guidelines to minimize potential problems while using online services.

1)   Keep your operating system current and up to date by visiting to the Microsoft Update page.  This will help keep your system secure by installing security measures as they become available.

2)   Install and maintain an antivirus software.  Such software can scan, identify and remove harmful viruses from your computer.  Free antivirus software can be obtained form vendors such as AVG Anti-Virus Professional Single Edition

3)   Install and maintain spyware and malware removal programs such as AdAware and SpyBot.  Such software prevents unwanted advertisements, pop-ups and hidden processes.  The installation of these programs can positively affect your computer’s performance and security.

For assistance with technical issues you may have, please contact the ITS Help Desk at (704) 330-5000.
