Data Center Migration FAQ and Important Dates

In order to meet the growing information technology needs of the college, CPCC Information Technology Services is moving the College Data Center.  The new data center will bring forth enhanced physical and data security, redundant power and cooling systems, and redundant data center class high-speed networking to ensure availability of college systems. Following, please find FAQs and Important Dates in regards to the Data Center Migration.

1. When the semester ends, how long will instructors have to enter final grades?

    Instructors are required to submit final grade rosters electronically no later than 48-hours after the official end of the class as reported on the COD. All grades should be submitted by end of business December 13th.  However, the system will be available until December 19.

    2. What is the earliest date that approved grade change requests can be processed?

      Approved grade change request can be processed when the College reopens on January 2nd, 2014.

      3. When will instructors be able to request and combine Spring 2014 LMS shells so courses can be migrated before the shutdown?

        Spring 2014 LMS shells will be made available November 22nd, 2013 at 12:01am so courses can be migrated before the shutdown

        4. When will the Learning Management Systems Blackboard and Moodle be back online?

          Learning Management Systems, Blackboard and Moodle, will be available December 31st, 2013 at 7:30am.

          5. Will CPCC phones be affected during the Data Center Migration?

            December 19th, 2013 at 5pm to December 20th, 2013 at 7am phone services will be migrated to their new location. No phone services or voicemail will be available during this time.

            December 21st, 2013 – December 30th, 2013 during the final stage of the data center migration all network services will be down.  No phone services or voicemail will be available during this time.

            All CPCC phone services will resume operation at 7:30am on December 31st, 2013.

            6. During the Data Center Migration how will email services be affected?

              December 19th, 2013 at 5am to December 20th, 2013 at 12:01am e-mail services will be migrated to their new location. No e-mail services will be available during this time.

              December 21st, 2013 – December 30th, 2013 during the final stage of the data center migration no e-mail services will be available during this time.

              Personal Out-of-Office messages will be sent.  However, there may be some delays during the times specified above.

              Email services will resume at 7:30am on December 31st, 2013.

              7. Will email messages received during the outage be sent after restoration of services?

                E-mail messages received during the outage will be delivered to your in-box when email services are restored.

                8. Will “out of office” e-mail messages be sent during the outage?

                  Yes, personal out-of-office messages you set will be sent out.  However, there may be delays as to when these messages are sent during the outage times.   Therefore, we are recommending that all CPCC employees include the following statement to your e-mail signature line a month prior to the outage so your contacts are made aware.

                  “Due to a planned network outage, all CPCC Information Technology Services, including e-mail and telecommunication services, will be unavailable from 12/21/2013 – 12/30/2013. Please be aware that emails sent during this time will not be received until 12/31/2013.”

                  9. When should students register and pay for Spring 2014 courses?

                    It is recommended that students register and pay for Spring 2014 courses prior to the first myCollege (WebAdvisor) outage on December19th, 2013.

                    Registration will resume at 7:30am, on December 31st, 2013.

                    10. Will I be able to access my student e-mail during the outage?

                    December 21st, 2013 – December 30th, 2013 you will not be able to access student email services.

                    All email services including student email will resume at 7:30am on December 31st, 2013.

                    11. Will the CPCC website be available during the outage?

                    December 21st, 2013 – December 30th, 2013 the CPCC website will be unavailable.  A temporary website with a message to the public regarding the service outage and links to working websites such as CFNC will be presented instead.

                    CPCC website will resume operations at 7:30am on December 31st, 2013.

                    12. Will I have access to CPCC services (calendar, email, and etc.) on my mobile device?

                    Any CPCC information stored on your device prior to the shutdown will be available to your mobile device.  Depending on your mobile device, you may receive notifications on your device that it could not successfully reach the services during this time.
