INTERPRETER EDUCATION PROGRAM

(Note: this applies to students in the 2008 catalog year)
- Eligibility Requirements: Student enrolled in a Co-op approved curriculum should meet the following eligibility requirements prior to placement:
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 program GPA.
- A minimum of twelve (12) semester hours credit (12 SHC) must be completed within the appropriate program of study before a student can be considered eligible to receive co-op credit.
A minimum of 3 SCH must come from the core within
the student’s major.
- Have satisfactorily completed the following courses:
1. ASL 111 Elementary ASL I
2. ASL 112 Elementary ASL II
3. ASL 211 Intermediate ASL I
4. ASL 212 Intermediate ASL II
5. IPP 111 Introduction to Interpretation
6. IPP 112 Comparative Cultures
7. IPP 130 Analytical Skills for
Interpreters
8. ASL 250 Linguistics of ASL
9. IPP 152 ASL/Eng Translation
10. IPP 153 Introduction to Discourse
Analysis
11. IPP 161 Consecutive Interpretation
For placement into COE121, students must have additionally successfully completed the following courses:
1. COE 111 Co-op Work Experience I
2. COE 111 Co-op Work Experience Seminar I
3. IPP 221 Simultaneous Interpretation I
4. IPP 240 Ethical Standards and Practices
- Be recommended for placement by Faculty Coordinator in the Interpreter Education Program (who has had the student in class); and the Co-op Coordinator.
- In addition, the following requirements must be observed during completion of the Co-op Work Experience semester:
- The student must enroll in an additional 3 SHC (semester credit hours) at minimum, while completing their Co-op Work Experience (except during the summer semester or if they have completed all course requirements for graduation).
