Instruction for ASL Placement test

The ASL placement test is good for any current CPCC student who has taken an American Sign Language (ASL) from high school or at another college / university that is not under the NC Community College System or NC State University system.  If you are not a current student of CPCC, please apply and enroll into the college. Online information on how to apply to the College can be found at:  http://www1.cpcc.edu/admissions/

The ASL placement test helps to determine which ASL course is most appropriate for you, and to grant credits to students testing out of ASL 111 / 181, ASL 112 / 182, ASL 211 / 281 or ASL 212 / 282.

There are four levels of ASL placement test:

ASL7001: The ASL Placement Test for ASL 111 and ASL 181

ASL7002: The ASL Placement Test for ASL 112 and ASL 182

ASL7003: The ASL Placement Test for ASL 211 and ASL 281

ASL7004: The ASL Placement Test for ASL 212 and ASL 282

Each ASL placement test has three (3) components:  (a) Grammar and Culture test; (b) Receptive skills test; and (c) Expressive skills test. If you pass Part A and Part B, you will be contacted to set up an one-to-one interview for your expressive skills test. The ASL placement test is administered in the ASL Lab in Cato 1 Building on the Cato campus.

Student should plan for up to two hours to complete the first two portions of the placement test and up to 30 minutes for the interview/assessment of expressive skills.

Before you can take it, be sure to bring your CPCC Student ID card and the trancsripts from your previous college/university with you to the ASL placement test site.
