Disability Counseling
CPCC Mission
The mission of serving students with disabilities is to provide equal access to learning at CPCC. Believing that students with disabilities can better advocate for their own needs with greater success, we strive to empower students at every step.
Admissions and Disability Documentation
CPCC offers a variety of services for students with documented disabilities, including learning disabilities, deaf/hard of hearing, blind/low vision, ADD/ADHD, and psychiatric and medical disorders.
Students with a disability must meet the same admissions criteria as other students. Eligibility for services is determined by the law. Students must provide specific documentation about their disability to a counselor for students with disabilities before accommodations can be given. Documentation can be faxed to 704-330-6230.
The documentation must be:
· Current (3 years or less)
· From a licensed professional
· Include a statement identifying the disability and diagnostic methodology
· Current functional limitations
· A listing of current and past accommodations, services and medications
· Recommendations for accommodations
Disability Evaluations are not available through CPCC.
First Steps
Prospective and new students are encouraged to contact DS in the early stage of college planning. The counselors who work with students with disabilities can assist with transitional planning from high school to college, gathering necessary documentation, counseling and advisement, plus accommodation planning.
Services/accommodations for students with disabilities may include
· Classroom and testing accommodations
· Sign language interpreting and communication access
· Assistive technology
· Disability counseling and advocacy
