Disability Benefits

Central Piedmont Community College provides disability coverage for all full-time employees at no cost to the employee. Employees may elect to exhaust any accumulated sick leave, vacation leave, or any other salary continuation before using the disability benefit plans. The applicable plan is determined by the employee's length of service.

Coverage amounts are divided into two categories: Short-term and Long-term. Short-term benefits begin after a thirty (30) day waiting period or after salary continuation cease, whichever is later, and continue for a maximum of 395 days. Long-term benefits begin after the conclusion of the short-term disability period or after salary continuation cease, whichever is later.

If salary is less than $2,000/month the employee receives 60% of pay (10% paid by CPCC 50% paid by HM) $33 per day from 31st through 60th day then 50% to a maximum of $3,000 monthly $33 per day from 31st thru 60th day then 50% 1st year maximum $3,000 monthly, 2nd year and after 65% maximum $3,900

Horace Mann Begins after 30 days and continues through the 426th. Pays 50% of monthly salary up to $3900 per month maximum benefit. Begins on the 427th day of disability. Pays 65% of monthly salary up to $3900 per month maximum benefit.
NC State Retirement Disability Plan Begins after 30 days and continues through the 426th. Pays 50% of monthly salary plus 50% of 1/12th of your annual longevity payment (if applicable) up to $3000 per month. Begins on the 427th day of disability. During the first 36 months of the long term disability period the benefit is 65% of monthly salary plus 65% of 1/12th annual longevity payment (if applicable up to $3900 per month.After the first 36 months, the payment is figured the same minus the amount of the Social Security disability benefit.
