Academic Pathways

Central Piedmont Community College will be offering Career and College Promise high school students the academic pathways listed below.

1) Students can only take the courses in their selected pathway. If a student registers for classes outside of their pathway, the college will drop their class(es).

2) Students can be on two Career and Technical Pathways at one time OR one Career and Technical Pathway and one Transfer pathway at one time.

College Transfer Pathways

These College Transfer Pathways will ensure that each course a high school student completes in the pathway with a grade of C or better will be accepted by all UNC member institutions and equated for lower division General Education credit at the university.

Career and Technical Pathways

*Some CTE pathways may include Universal General Education Courses (UGETC). Students cannot register for any UGETC courses unless they fully meet transfer pathway criteria. Effective Fall 2019.

Business Administration requires English and Reading assessment scores.

      Cosmetology requires benchmark test scores in English, Reading and Math. Also an orientation with the Cosmetology department is required before registration is granted.

      Culinary Arts pathways require benchmark test scores in English, Reading and Math. Also an orientation with the Culinary Arts department is required before registration is granted.


          All Health Science pathways (with the exception of health information technology) are designed so that HSC 110 and 140 will be taken in the first semester and HEA 112 and MED 121 will be taken the following semester prior to the remainder of the courses. Students are not eligible to register for other courses in these elected paths until the above has been completed.
