Program Overview
Medical Laboratory Technology (A45420)
The Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and transfusion medicine that may be used in the maintenance of health and diagnosis/treatment of disease.
Course work emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assurance, and reporting/recording and interpreting findings involving tissues, blood, and body fluids.
Graduates are eligible to take examinations given by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and/or the National Certifying Agency. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industry, and research facilities.
Degree Awarded
The Associate in Applied Science Degree - Medical Laboratory Technology is awarded by the College upon completion of this program.
Note
In addition to tuition and textbooks, costs of this program include the following: uniforms, fluid-resistant lab coat, safety glasses/goggles, a physical examination including immunizations and drug screening.
The student must provide documentation of both health and accident insurance.
In order to progress in this program, students must earn a C or better in all MLT prefix courses.
In order to participate in clinical education experiences at health care facilities, students are required to submit results of a criminal background check at their own expense. As a condition of program admission, students are required to verify that they are United States citizens or are otherwise legally authorized residents of the United States.

Admissions
-Complete a CPCC application.
-Submit high school transcripts as well as any college transcripts.
-Take required placement tests.
-Complete any required Developmental classes with a C or better.
-Complete high school level chemistry course with a C or better within the last 10 years.
-Applicants must also present evidence of good physical and mental health.
