What is a Nurse Aide I or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)?

A certified nursing assistant, or CNA, is a medical professional who provides personal care and performs basic nursing skills for adults. Emphasis is placed on the aging process (including mental, social, and physical needs of the elderly), patient's rights, nutrition management, elimination procedures, safe environment, restorative services, personal and special care procedures and activities, human body structure/function and related common diseases/disorders, communication and documentation, death and dying, and roles of the nursing assistant and health team members.

Careers as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The health care industry continues to seek experienced professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills to address the population's evolving medical needs.  As a result, careers in fields like CNA continue to be an attractive career option for many of today's graduates.

This profession offers both variety in the workplace and competitive salaries.  In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook, a CNA can earn a median annual wage of $24,400.

Certification

The CPCC Nurse Aide I program gives you the knowledge and skills to become a CNA and can be completed in one semester. It is offered during the summer semester through Corporate and Continuing Education. Upon successful completion of NUX 7501, a skill/competency evaluation is required. Registration for the NC Competency Evaluation will take place AFTER successful completion of the nurse aide course.
