The Council for Resource Development is the premier professional association for community college fundraisers. Its highly regarded Specialist Training Program is a two-week intensive introduction to all facets of resource development in the community college. It has been a training ground for many of the most successful community college fundraisers in the nation.
Who Should Attend: The Specialist Training Program is appropriate for professionals who are new to fundraising, new to community colleges or want to improve their private fundraising and grant writing skills. The comprehensive curriculum assures that each participant will learn the fundamentals of development. Experienced faculty, drawn from successful fundraising programs across the nation, will also share best practices. Additionally, the intense cohort experience (limited to 25 participants) and the immediate development of a peer network provide enduring benefit to participants.
Week One at the model campus, Central Piedmont Community College Charlotte, NC will feature an overview of fundamentals and advanced training emphasizing skills development in private fundraising and grantsmanship.
Week Two in Washington, DC will focus on public funding sources such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, and many others. While in Washington D.C., participants will visit Congress, the American Association of Community Colleges, the Council for Resource Development and the offices of many grant makers.
Tuition:Tuition for the two-week program is $1,300. Participants are also responsible for their own transportation to Charlotte, NC and Washington D.C., most meals, all lodging, and other expenses.
Regional Scholarships: Many CRD regions offer full and partial scholarships to CRD members in their regions to attend the Specialist Training. The Burton Talmage Memorial Scholarship: Provides a full tuition scholarship each year to one of the interns in the Resource Development Specialist Training Program. The individual selected will be one who the Board believes to aspire to those characteristics of leadership, caring and citizenship that we were privileged to know in Burton Talmage.
