The librarians at CPCC are available to teach library instruction for any class at any campus. We can teach students about library materials and resources that are available to them, as well as research skills.

  • CPCC Library would like the instructor to accompany the class

  • If an instructor has a copy of the assignment the students are working on, please give it to the librarian assigned to the class.

  • The assigned librarian will confirm the appointment with the instructor

APPETIZERS
Library Tour (5-20 min.)

Students will tour the library and learn about the services and resources that are available.

Library Snapshot (not available with other items)  (10 min.)
Students will receive a brief classroom introduction to a librarian and what the library can do to help them succeed.

Navigating the website (10 min.)
Students will learn how to access the library website and locate available online resources and services.

Developing a Topic (ecommended with CLICK and database courses) (15 min.)
Students will learn how to identify keywords and combine terms to develop a topic suitable for their assignment.

MAIN COURSES
CLICK, the online Library Catalog  (25 min.)

Students will learn to find and access books, e-books, and videos in the CPCC library system.
 

General research databases  (20-25 min. per database)

Students will learn to find full-text articles in  a multi-subject database:   Academic Search

Premier,  MasterFile Premier, the Historical New York Times, or the CQ Researcher.

 

Specialized research databases (20-25 min. per database)
Students will learn to find information specific to a discipline, such as Nursing, Criminal

Justice, Business, English, Automotive, Anthropology. 
Ask your librarian for a recommended  resource for your students.

 

Evaluating Websites (45 min.)
Students will learn advanced web searching techniques and the criteria for evaluating websites.

 

 

SIDE DISHES 

Distinguishing between popular and scholarly journals  (10-20 min.)

Students will learn the  differences between popular and scholarly journals and how to find
and identify samples of each. 

 

Plagiarism (20 min.)
Students will learn what plagiarism is and how to avoid it, as well as understand the ethics and issues of academic integrity .

 

Citations (20 min.)
Students will learn how to cite resources for their papers using MLA or APA styles.
