Avoiding Plagiarism
With all the potential pitfalls, it seems like
it would be difficult to avoid plagiarism, but it isn't. To do
so, you must remember to give credit when you:
- use another person's ideas or opinions
- directly quote an author's material
- paraphrase another person's written or
spoken words
- use statistics, facts, graphs, pictures to
support your argument
The best way to avoid plagiarism is to
carefully cite your sources using a citation
style like MLA or APA.
Purdue University's Online Writing Lab has an excellent page that
talks specifically about
avoiding plagiarism and spells out exactly "...so, what is
plagiarism?"
