Sorting and Limiting
Sometimes when you are searching, you can
bring up a list of hundreds of results. How can you sort
through them? What if you only want the materials located at
Levine campus, or you only want to find videos on your topic?
This is when the sorting and limiting functions come in handy.
Let's say you're doing a Title Keyword search
on "United States History". You will have over 400 search
results. Obviously, that is too many to sort through. If
you want to find the most recent materials about this topic, you
would sort by publication date. To do this, locate the Sort
by: drop down box in the upper right corner of the catalog.
You can choose one of four options: Titles, Authors, Publication
Date, or Media. Choose Publication Date:

and all records are sorted with
the newest date first. If 400+ results is too many, and you're
only looking for materials at Levine Campus, you would want to Limit
by that campus. To do so, choose Limit By: and select
Levine Campus Library.

Now you have just over 10
results. You can limit by a number of different options, such
as campus, media type (Videos or DVDs), online resources,
language (English, French, Spanish, or German), periodicals, reference materials, etc.
