Facts: Requirements:
  • Provides part-time employment.
  • Funded by the Federal Government
  • Allows one to earn a portion of education expenses.
  • Provides an average of 15-20 hours/week of work.
  • Available to undergraduate and graduate (including Bachelor's) students enrolled at least half-time
  • Depends on total FWS award, class schedule, and academic progress.
  • Awarded FWS funds are limited by availability of positions, funds, and completion of the interview process.
  • There are no term limitations on earnings, provided annual limits on the student's award letter are not exceeded.
  • Students are paid on the 15th of each month,  according to the position and the number of hours worked.

As of July 1st the Federal Work-Study program has been re-engineered to provide a seamless process for searching and applying for vacant positions at the CPCC multi-campuses. The following changes have been made and should be used when applying for Federal Work-Study employment:

How to Apply:

Apply to the college and be admitted to an eligible program of study.

  • Complete the FAFSA form.
  • If you are applying for Fall 2016, Spring 2017 or Summer 2017 complete the 2016-2017 FAFSA form. If you are applying for Fall 2017, Spring 2018 or Summer 2018 complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA form
  • After your FA file is complete and you have been accepted to the College, view our current work study job openings.

Vacant Positions:

All vacant Federal Work-Study positions will be advertised via the CPCC Human Resources website by accessing the following link: http://www.cpcc.edu/humanresources/employment .You will then select the link titled "Full-Time and Part-Time Career Opportunities". In order to view a complete listing of part time positions available to eligible students under the Federal Work-Study program you will then set the search selection criteria to the campus/location of your choice and the "Part-time" employment type and select the search option.

Application Process

The application process for those eligible students interested in the Federal Work-Study program has changed from the previous manual or paper application process to the online application available through the CPCC Human Resource website. In order to complete a Part-time application for employment for the FWS program students are asked to create an account to search or apply for a job on the HR website.

How to Apply for A FWS Position

  • Click on the position that you want to apply.  If you are interested in multiple positions, please apply for each one.

  • View the functions and job duties of the position.  If interested in the position, click on Apply Now at the top left-side of the page.

If you meet all qualifications with the required skills, GPA, need, etc. and are selected for an interview, a FWS supervisor will contact you.  I am going to forward a paper to you in a few minutes to add to this page.

If you are recommended for a position:

  • The supervisor will notify the Financial Aid Office.
  • An email will be sent to you providing links to New Hire Forms to be completed before you begin working.
  • You will need to contact HR to schedule a New Hire appointment.
  • You will need to meet with HR to submit your completed forms.
  • Complete forms under “Part-Time” Employment Forms.”
  • A background check will be conducted.
  • You will be notified of your start date by the FWS supervisor.
  • You will sign a FWS Authorization Form.
