Professor Thomas A. Schmedake

“Nanoscale Science and Technology – Current Status and Future Outlook.”

Seminar Series: "Turning of the Technology World; Conversations on the Future"
Next Seminar: Wednesday, October 22, 2008
Time: at 1:00PM
Location: PD 215-216
Speaker: Professor Thomas A. Schmedake, Department of Chemistry, UNC Charlotte

According to Professor Schmedake, the National Science Foundation estimates that by the year 2015, $1 trillion worth of products worldwide will incorporate nanotechnology in key functional components. This will require 200 million new jobs in nanoscale related fields.

These extraordinary NSF porjects are supported by studies conducted by several other independent, international organizations, including Mitsubishi Research Institue (Japan), Deutsche Bank (Germany), and Lux Research (U.S) (according to M.C. Rocco, Journal of Nanoparticle Research, 2005, vol. 7(6)).

The PhD program in nanoscale science at UNCC is one of the first in the country in this significant field.

Schmedake will discuss some of the new science and technologies in nanoscale science and prodictions of future trends, with an emphasis on nanochemistry.

Questions on the seminar may be addressed to Donald C. Jessep Jr. of Engineering Technology.
