When we conduct these pilot projects, it is only an evaluative process. Current initiatives are listed on the left, with more information under each category.
If these pilots gain enough momentum and show enough promise - if they grow legs - then we generally turn them over to another entity within the college for full implementation, or convert them into standalone centers or programs. At that point the pilot projects become “Released Projects.” Examples include the Center for GIS, and the Simulation and Gaming Program.
In other cases these projects represent ongoing concerns and are directly related to the Futures Institute in focus, or by affiliation. For example, the Geekfest runs annually, but focuses on emerging technologies and hand-on demonstrations to students, faculty, and staff. Even though the Geekfest is mature, it's core mission ties directly to that of the Futures Institute.
