Donated Equipment
Equipment donated to the College must meet certain qualifying criteria and must be approved by the appropriate dean or manager and the unit Vice President prior to acceptance. Careful adherence to this procedure will ensure that donated property is properly inventoried, insured, and covered by maintenance contracts whenever applicable.
All donations must be coordinated through the CPCC Foundation.
Qualifying criteria
To qualify for acceptance as an equipment donation, each item must have a fair market value of $1,000.00 or more and a remaining life expectancy of at least 2 years. The College will not accept donated refrigerators, freezers, washing machines/dryers, chemicals, or other items requiring special disposal procedures. College funds cannot be used to repair or maintain donated equipment unless it has been added to the College inventory.
Forms for dontating property or equipment
To qualify for a personal income tax deduction, it is important that the donor report all donations with a fair market value of $1,000 or more on Internal Revenue Service form #8283, "Non-Cash Charitable Donations." The value established by the donor must match the value entered on the Request To Accept Donated Property Form. The Request To Accept Donated Property Form has been developed to determine if donated property should be accepted for use by the College.
Donated equipment will not be accepted by the Facilities Services department or the Inventory Control department unless required approval has been documented in advance.
Routing of form copies
Once the form has been completed and the equipment has been approved for acceptance, one copy should be forwarded to Inventory Control. If Facilities Services needs to pick up the equipment from the donor, a copy of the form should also be sent to Facilities Services requesting pick up of the item or items. The originating office should also keep a copy of the form on file.
Processing approved equipment
Approved donated equipment will be assigned an inventory control number which will be affixed to the equipment once it is received.
