About the Green Systems Technology program

CPCC is one of four community colleges in the state to receive a grant for green job training programs. The Green System Technology (GST) program’s curriculum focuses both on mechanical and electrical systems to better prepare students for the jobs of the future. Tomorrow’s new positions are being produced at the intersection of many disciplines, creating a demand for working professionals with a multi-craft approach in the labor force.

GST is a 16-week, cohort program. Classes are lead by CPCC’s experienced instructors who blend hands-on training opportunities together with traditional instruction to give students the real world experience they need to succeed outside the classroom.

Enroll at No Cost
To enroll in CPCC’s new GST program at no cost, students must take an assessment test to demonstrate their proficiency in mathematics at the 9th grade level and their ability to read at the 10th grade level. Applicants who pass the assessment test and meet the eligiblity requirements will receive free tuition, books and supplies.

What You’ll Learn
While the majority of the program’s curriculum is spent focusing on such simple electrical and mechanical system concepts as AC/DC circuits, conveyor systems, voltage levels and more, students will concurrently receive basic skills training in reading, mathematics and communication through the College’s Pathways to Employment office, a program committed to helping individuals achieve a competitive advantage in the workforce.

Upon completion of the program, students will be qualified to apply for entry-level positions, maintaining, calibrating and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment used in the production of energy.

Also upon completion of the GST program, students will receive job placement assistance from CPCC and the job-link centers.

What You’ll Earn
According to local energy companies like Westinghouse and Siemens who boast many of today’s entry level energy positions, job opportunities in the GST field vary from $9 - $12 an hour.
