Your Rights and Discrimination Activity

Overview of Activity: Understanding your rights and laws against discrimination

Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes

Outcomes: The students will understand their rights and will know the laws forbidding discrimination in the United States.

Watching and Listening: The students will watch the interview with the teacher, paying special attention to rights and laws that apply to everyone in the U.S.

Procedure: A class discussion will follow the interview. The teacher should emphasize to the students that citizens and immigrants have the same rights concerning law enforcement. Citizens and immigrants can also be arrested.

Activity: The teacher should review the following terms with the class, making sure that everyone understands the meanings. Have the students to brainstorm with a partner and list any times that one of them has experienced any of the above concepts.
