Making a Job Change Activity

Overview of Activity: How to prepare for a job change

Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes

Outcomes: Students will know why job changes are often necessary upon relocating to a new area. They will also know how to be better prepared for the change. Students will know the occupations and countries of their classmates.

Watching and Listening: Have students watch the Culture Clip from the video. Ask them to pay special attention to the different circumstances that the individuals are facing.

Procedure: Ask the students to make a list of all the jobs that they have had. Then, ask them to circle the jobs that required special training or preparation.

Activity: Bring classified ads from the local newspaper and go over the different job categories with the class. Next, divide the class into groups and give each group a category. Ask them to record the number of jobs within each category and to record how much skill or training is required for each job. Then, have them discuss and name different places where they could learn these skills.
