Internal Revenue Service Activity

Overview of Activity Plan: Understanding how the IRS operates

Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes

Outcomes: The students will know why they have to pay taxes, how to pay taxes, and how to get information about paying taxes.

Watching and Listening: Before watching the interview with the students, the teacher should explain to them that everyone who works must file income taxes. This interview should help them with any questions that they might have.

Procedure: The students will think of ways that North Carolina income taxes are used to benefit the state. These ideas will be recorded on the board and then discussed.

Writing Activity: The students will write about the differences between taxes in the U.S. and taxes in their native countries.
