Duties of North Carolina Judges and Mayors Activity
Overview of Activity Plan: Understanding the role of judges and mayors in North Carolina
Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes
Outcomes: The students will understand how the North Carolina court system works and how the elected mayors oversee the cities.
Watching and Listening: Before watching the interviews, the teacher will tell the students that they will be watching two interviews. After the interviews, the students will be asked to explain why these two interviews were seen together.
Procedure: The teacher will write the three branches of government: executive, legislative, and judicial. With the teacher’s help, the students will list the duties of each branch.
Writing Activity: Each student will write a brief paragraph stating why he/she thinks that it is important for the people to elect the judges and mayors of cities.
