Understanding the Services of Financial Institutions Activity

Overview of Activity: Students will understand the services offered by financial institutions

Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes

Outcomes: The students will understand financial institutions, how they can help individuals to manage their money, and how to go about choosing an institution.

Watching and Listening: The teacher will ask for a show of hands to demonstrate how many students already use financial institutions. These students should try and explain the concept to the rest of the class. Then, the class and teacher should watch the interview again.

Procedures: The students are placed into small groups to discuss and list the different needs that they have for managing money.

Writing Activity: After the students have compiled their lists, the teacher will write banks, savings and loans, and credit unions on the board. The teacher will ask the students to choose the institution that they think can help them the most. They should write a paragraph explaining their choice.
