Locating a Physician Activity

Overview of Activity Plan: Understand the processing of finding a physician in the United States

Suggested Time Allowance: 5-10 minutes

Outcomes: The students will learn how to find a doctor and what they should bring with them on their first visit.

Watching and Listening: Before watching the interview, the teacher will ask the students what they do when they or family members need to see a physician. The students will be instructed to pay close attention to the suggestions that the doctor makes for a first visit.

Procedure: The students are asked to remember the first time that they went to a doctor in the United States. Ask them if they were prepared for that first visit. Ask them to remember what the doctor said was important for them to bring to their first appointment. Lastly, ask if they still see that same doctor.

Writing Activity: The students are instructed to write a letter to a hospital requesting a list of doctors who are accepting new patients.
