English as a Second Language (ESL) is an adult English language program for immigrants who have limited English proficiency. The Adult ESL Program provides instruction for adult English language learners to develop their English language literacy, life and work skills in order to achieve greater self-sufficiency and participation in American community life.
Instruction is offered in a variety of settings and locations with varied lengths of instruction and course content to help learners meet their immediate and long term literacy and educational goals. The program uses a North Carolina Community College System approved assessment process to place learners in the appropriate level and to document their progress.
All students wanting to take an Adult ESL class need to take a placement test first.
