Why Podcast? Some say we are not sure if this technology will continue to be relevant and useful.
- Podcasting Pervades Our Culture: Barack Obama announced his candidacy via a webcast. Hillary Clinton used webcasting to talk about her candidacy, and there were so many people viewing it that the bandwidth of the provider wasn't sufficient. Most young people are on myspace and facebook where MP3s are very popular.
- Our Society Is Focused On Access: Having content 24/7 is now becoming the defacto standard. We need to adapt to this expectation. Moving into this new context gives us new perspectives.
- Personal Growth: Instructors can hear themselves and make corrections in their presentation.
- Different Learning Styles: Help hold attention, more relevance, confidence in the process and program, satisfaction with the outcomes. We can provide all of these with podcasts.
- Learning Models: Run through all six levels of Blum's taxonomy. Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis. You can address all levels of thinking with podcasting.
- Instruction: Can present additional material that won't fit into the classroom time.
- Collaboration: Take concepts from various disciplines and incorporate them into a podcasts. You can take advantage of interdisciplinary presentation without having to bring visitors into a classroom.
- Pragmatic Concerns: Mitigate absences and review for students
- Post Additional Resources: Make additional resources available.
