Practicum Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements for: EDU 184: Introductory Practicum

A.  Be officially enrolled as an Early Childhood student in program A55220 or C55220

B.  Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in Early Childhood and a minimum 2.0 GPA overall 

C.  Have completed ENG 080 and RED 080 OR scored at the appropriate level for ENG 111 on the Accuplacer test.

D.  Have satisfactorily completed the following courses:

  1. EDU 119 Introduction to Early Childhood Education
  2. EDU 144 Child Development I
  3. EDU 146 Child Guidance

E.  Be recommended for placement by Faculty in the Early Childhood Department.

F.  Please note that eligibility for EDU 184 does not guarantee registration for EDU 184.

G.  Students will be placed 3 hours per week in an NAEYC Accredited Program or an early childhood setting with a minimum of a 3 star license in addition to attending a 2 hour evening seminar every other week.

H. Proof of TB test, criminal background check, and health assessment (completed by the student), and student accident insurance are required for participation in practicum.

Eligibility Requirements for Practicum II Students: EDU 284: Capstone Practicum

A.  Be officially enrolled as an Early Childhood student in program A55220

B.  Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in Early Childhood and a minimum 2.0 GPA overall

C.  Met Practicum I requirements and successfully completed EDU 184

D. Have completed DRE 098  scored at the appropriate level for ENG 111 on the Accuplacer test.

E.  Have satisfactorily completed ALL MAJOR/CORE AND RELATED COURSE REQUIREMENTS (EDU prefix) with the exception of EDU 153 (Health, Safety, Nutrition) and EDU 271 (Educational Technology) which may be taken concurrently with EDU 284.

F.  Be recommended for placement by Faculty in the Early Childhood Department.

G.  Please note that eligibility for EDU 284 does not guarantee registration for EDU 284.

H. Students should expect to work 9 hours per week in an NAEYC Accredited Program or an early childhood setting with a minimum of a 3 star license in addition to attending a two hour/every other week.
