FAQs
Who is my advisor?
Click here for a list of current faculty advisors. Match up your advisor with the first initial of your last name.
Certificates are awarded by the college, and require approximately 17 hours. We offer several certificates; they are listed on our website. Click on “certificates” link for more information.
Certification is awarded by the state at different levels. There is a fee for applying, and licensure requires that teachers become certified. The North Carolina Institute for Child Development Professionals NCICDP (“The Institute”) handles this. For more information log on to the North Carolina Institute for Child Development's website
Course Specifics:
Courses with section numbers of 85 or higher are online.
Some courses are hybrid; some courses are short session
Courses with numbers ending in an “L” are for students who already have a Bachelors degree and who are working full time as teachers in a public school system, working toward licensure through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center (RALC). Students working on an AAS degree or certificate cannot take these courses; the courses do not count toward the degree.
Courses with 4-digit course numbers are CEU courses, and do not count toward the degree.
Tuition – there are fees in addition to tuition costs (lab courses have lab fees). CAPS (Campus access fee) fee is approximately $40; However, the CAPS fee doesn’t apply if students are taking only online courses.
Because registration is online, there is no waiting list maintained for classes. Students who to enroll in full sections should begin watching for spaces to open up after payment is due, and students who do not pay will be dropped from courses. Unfortunate;y, we do not over-enroll courses.

Prerequisites:
In order to take any course other than 119, students must take the English and Reading placement test to determine if they meet the prerequisites (ENG/RED 080 or ENG 085 for 100 level courses and ENG/RED 090 or ENG 095 for 200 level classes).
If a student has completed English at another institution, the student will need to have their transcripts sent to CPCC. Transcript request forms and evaluation forms are on the website: http://www.cpcc.edu/admissions/student-records/transcripts (Click on Future Students, then Admissions/Registration, then Student Records, then Transcripts). External transcripts (from another college) must be evaluated; the evaluation form can be found at the same location…click once more on the “forms” link to download this form.
