Practicum Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements for Practicum I Students: EDU 214 (formerly COE 111n/EDU 126)
A. Be officially enrolled as an Early Childhood student in program A55220 or C55220
B. Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in Early Childhood and a minimum 2.0 GPA overall
C. Have completed ENG 090 and RED 090 OR scored at the appropriate level for ENG 111 on the Accuplacer test.
D. Have satisfactorily completed the following courses:
- EDU 119 Introduction to Early Childhood Education OR EDU 111 & 112 NC Early Childhood Credentials I and II
- EDU 144 Child Development I
- EDU 146 Child Guidance
- One of the following courses must be completed prior to enrollment:
a. EDU 151/151A Creative Activities/Lab
b. EDU 280/280A Literacy and Literature Activities/Lab
c. EDU 251/251A Exploration Activities/Lab
E. Be recommended for placement by Faculty in the Early Childhood Department.
F. Please note that eligibility for EDU 214 does not guarantee registration for EDU 214
2. Students should expect to work 9 hours per week in an NAEYC Accredited Program or an early childhood setting with a minimum of a 3 star license in addition to attending a 1 hour per week evening seminar.
Eligibility Requirements for Practicum II Students: EDU 284 (formerly COE 121n/EDU 226)
A. Be officially enrolled as an Early Childhood student in program A55220
B. Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in Early Childhood and a minimum 2.0 GPA overall
C. Met EDU 214 requirements and successfully completed Practicum I.
D. Have completed ENG 090 and RED 090 OR scored at the appropriate level for ENG 111 on the Accuplacer test.
E. Have satisfactorily completed ALL MAJOR/CORE AND RELATED COURSE REQUIREMENTS (EDU prefix) with the exception of EDU 153 (Health, Safety, Nutrition) and EDU 271 (Educational Technology) which may be taken concurrently with EDU 284.
F. Be recommended for placement by Faculty in the Early Childhood Department.
G. Please note that eligibility for EDU 284 does not guarantee registration for EDU 284.
2. Students should expect to work 9 hours per week in an NAEYC Accredited Program or an early childhood setting with a minimum of a 3 star license in addition to attending a one hour per week evening seminar.
