Information about late withdrawals due to a medical or disability issue

All withdrawals from any class will be recorded on a student’s transcript as a “W,” regardless of the circumstance that caused the student to withdraw.  If a student is receiving Financial Aid, the student should contact FA to learn how the withdrawal could impact their financial aid award. Late withdrawals from a class are permitted at the discretion of the instructor.  CPCC will not give a refund for a late withdrawal.

Procedures for late withdrawals for students who are registered with Disability Services

Notify your instructor about your situation. Submit your documentation regarding your medical condition and your reason for needing to withdraw from class(es) to your Disability Counselor.  Your Disability Counselor will communicate with your instructor regarding the request.

The documentation should include the diagnosis of the medical condition pertaining to the withdrawal request and the length of time the student will be absent from class(es), including the dates.  The diagnosis must be made by a licensed health care worker who has training and relevant expertise in the area the diagnosis is being made. The report must include the name, title, contact information, and credentials of the qualified professional writing the report.

This documentation can be faxed to Disability Counseling Services at
704-330-6230.

Your assigned Disability Counselor will review your documentation once it has been received, and will contact you to further discuss your circumstances. The Disability Counselor will contact your instructor(s) by e-mail to inform them of your situation and will provide recommendations regarding the withdrawal.  However, it is the decision of your instructor(s) to allow for a late withdrawal from class(es).
