Summary of Co-op Regulations

As a co-op student you are expected to meet the following requirements:

Academic Requirements

  • Completed 12 SCH in Program and 3 SCH in core (degree students) or 9 SCH in Program (certificate students)
  • Be enrolled at least 3 credit hours halftime in one of the approved co-op curriculum areas unless:

                    1.You are participating in an alternating co-op
                    2.You have completed all of your academic requirements except co-op
                    3.No courses that you need to graduate are being offered the semester you do co-op

  • Have a 2.5 overall Grade Point Average (GPA) (may be lower, depending on department) and maintain that GPA while participating.
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for co-oping in your curriculum area and be approved for co-op by the faculty coordinator and co-op office before enrolling in co-op.


Participation Requirements

  • Complete all paperwork and return to the co-op office prior to meeting with the co-op coordinator for the first time.
  • Attend all meetings and seminars required by the co-op program.
  • Complete a Co-op Orientation, either on-line or with a co-op coordinator: document completion by emailing to the Co-op Office the on-line verification with an electronic signature; or sign and date the Orientation Form after meeting with the co-op coordinator.
  • Inform co-op staff of acceptance of co-op position, any changes in address, withdrawal from program, or any problem which may arise.
  • Remain in work experience for the entire period of the work experience unless special arrangements are made with the co-op office and the employer.
  • If working under the parallel plan, be enrolled at CPCC at least three (3) credit hours during the semester(s) you are co-oping.
  • Complete the work Agreements, MLO’s, the Mid-semester Evaluation and the Co-op Workbook and return to the faculty coordinator by the required dates.
  • If withdrawal from the program occurs or if the student receives an I or F grade, the student must complete the wage and time report in the Workbook for the hours spent on the job.

College Requirements

  • Register for the appropriate co-op course each semester
  • Adhere to all College regulations to remain in good standing with the institution.
  • Fulfill all obligations concerning registration, fee payments, and financial aid.
  • Be covered by adequate health and accident insurance during the co-op work experience.
