Below are descriptions of just a few of our Workplace Basic Skills offerings. Please call for information on additional courses.
Workplace Basic Skills: This course emphasizes the needs of adults functioning below the high school level in reading, writing, and mathematics. Course content may be customized to include: company/job-specific vocabulary, forms, standard operating procedures and safety information.
English as a Second Language: This course accommodates the varied needs of international populations. Attention is given to both the cultural and linguistic needs, as instruction is focused upon the formation of accurate, appropriate communication skills and upon the employee's ability to function in the adult-American workplace and community. Course content may be customized to include: company/job-specific vocabulary, forms, standard operating procedures and safety information.
General Education Development (GED) Preparation: This course prepares employees to pass the final GED test. Based on a pre-test, instruction is tailored to meet the needs of the individual. Students complete the course when they pass all GED subject examinations.
Workplace Pathways
The purpose of the Workplace Pathways Program is to strengthen employees' basic skills and to provide specific skill sets to employees, so these associates can apply for promotions within their organization. The program is designed and customized by community college staff, along with corporate managers, supervisors, and selected employees. This program is open to all employers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. The duration of the program is from one to four semesters - depending on program content.
