Foundational Skills courses are offered at CPCC Campuses and throughout the community free of charge. Please visit an Intake and Assessment center to become a student!

| Language Arts ABE 6001 ABE 6002 |
This course is designed to help you understand common symbols, words, and phrases used in everyday life to read directions, signs, and maps. Additionally, you will practice how to use capitalization, punctuation and contractions to fill out forms and write messages. Additionally, you practice how to read charts, graphs, payroll stubs and medical forms. Finally, this course helps you learn how to locate information and identify main ideas in short paragraphs. By the end of the course, you should be able to write simple paragraphs with a main idea and supporting details while checking for spelling and punctuation errors. |
| Math ABE 6001 ABE 6002 |
This course focuses on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills involved in daily tasks. Upon completion of this course, you should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers to solve a variety of problems. |
| Language Arts ABE 6003 |
This course offers helpful strategies for reading and understanding short stories and newspaper articles. You will practice following multi-step procedures, comparing and contrasting, and determining the difference between fact and opinion. During this course you will also practice writing descriptions and short essays using proper punctuation and spelling. |
| Math ABE 6003 |
This course focuses on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing multi-digit whole numbers. Additionally, you will work with fractions and decimals to solve everyday problems. You will practice solving word problems and converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. |
| Language Arts ABE 6004 |
This course focuses on understanding multi-step directions and reading common legal forms and manuals. You will practice how to integrate information from texts, charts, and graphs as well as being introduced to more complex themes and elements in literature, science, and social studies. This course will help you write in an organized and cohesive manner with few mechanical errors and a complex sentence structure. |

This course will help you interpret and solve simple algebraic equations, tables, and graphs. You practice applying percentages, ratios and proportion, scientific notation, positive and negative numbers, geometry, and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems involving formulas and real-life situations. |
