NextGen is funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act under contract with Charlotte Works.


Who is eligible to participate?

To be eligible for NextGen, you must be:

  • 16 to 24 years old and a resident of Mecklenburg County; AND
  • Out of school (students enrolled in GED, HiSET, or Adult High School classes can be eligible); AND
  • A citizen, permanent resident, or have a right to work in the United States; AND
  • Selective Service Compliant (for males 18+).

In addition, you must meet one of the following:

  • School dropout
  • Ex-offender (an individual who is subject to the juvenile or adult justice system)
  • Homeless, a runaway, in foster care or has aged out of the foster care system
  • An individual who is pregnant or parenting
  • An individual with a disability
  • Low income individual who is basic skills deficient (below 9.0 on TABE) or an English language learner



How do I get started?

You can download the registration process here.

    • Attend an information session:
        • Information sessions are held every Tuesday at 10:00 am in the CPCC Education Center (1412 E. 4th Street, Charlotte), Room 123. Please note there will be no session on March 27th, 2018
