Rise To Work




CPCC offers Rise 2 Work, a new program for qualifying Mecklenburg County residents who are Food and Nutrition services (EBT) eligible.

Are you unemployed or underemployed?

Do you want a better job, career and life?

Do you need additional training, certifications or degrees?


The College and Career Readiness Department at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has launched Rise 2 Work, a Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services and North Carolina Division of Health and Human Services program that seeks to connect low-income residents with the education and training opportunities they need to secure a better-paying job or family-sustaining career.

Rise 2 Work is a grant-funded program that is available to individuals enrolled in Mecklenburg County’s Food & Nutrition Services Employment and Training Program who want to increase their skills, earn new credentials, boost their career possibilities and contribute to their family’s financial well-being. To be eligible, residents must qualify to receive SNAP/EBT/Food Stamps assistance and be able to work.

Students in this program can receive:

  • Scholarships to college
  • Training and certifications for in-demand jobs
  • Advising and career coaching
  • Education Navigator assistance to help you plan your career path
  • Support Services and transportation assistance

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Must be receiving or eligible to receive Food and Nutrition Services (EBT) in Mecklenburg County
  • Age 18-59
  • Must be able to work
  • Cannot be receiving Work First or Refugee Employment Services
  • Cannot incur a cost for child care to participate

How do I get started?

  • Attend an information session or Contact an Education Navigator
  • Information sessions are held every Wednesday at 10:00 am in the Central Piedmont Community College, Education Center (1412 E. 4th Street, Charlotte).
