Who can enroll?

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Enrollment is tuition-free if you meet one of the following requirements below.
    • Are currently unemployed
    • Have received notification of a pending layoff
    • Are working and eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit
    • Are working and earn wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • Earned Income Tax Credit and 200% poverty guidelines can be found here.

What courses are offered?

HRD 8201

CRC Preparation and Employability Lab

This course covers developing a resume, interview preparation, and job search strategies. You will learn the components of an effective resume, including organization and formatting and how to customize your own resumes to convey greater confidence. The course also includes the opportunity for a professional dress outfitting. Additionally, all students will register in NC Works and can prepare and practice for the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC).  Read more about the CRC here,

HRD 7000

Career Planning and Assessment

The course takes you through a process to assess your interests, attitudes, and aptitudes while you learn about high-demand career options and labor market information.  As you explore careers, you will develop a career and academic plan that will include measurable benchmarks for you to reach your educational and employment goals.

HRD 6015

Technology Awareness

The course introduces you to the basic functions of Microsoft Windows through the context of learning how to create file folders for organized record-keeping, completing on-line applications, adding email attachments, creating spreadsheets to track job search data, word processing, and using social media for job search.

HRD 6018

Economic Literacy

The course is designed to help you understand real-life economic concepts that will enable you to make more informed decisions in the workplace.  Instruction includes budgeting, debt elimination, financial goal setting, bargain shopping, wage improvement plans, wise use of credit, and identity protection.

How do I enroll?

Career Development classes are open enrollment and available at NCWorks Career Centers and CPCC Central Campus.

  • Select and visit the site that is convenient for you.
  • No pre-registration is required.
  • Participants will complete an in-class registration form and tuition waiver on the first day of class.
