Area of Instruction at CPCC: Songwriting

About Me: I have been affiliated with songwriters since 1985 either as a publisher, mentor, contest judge, or co-writer. Over the years I have learned that there are many songwriters who have potential talent, but have never take the time to learn what I call the "best practices of successful songwriters". I have made this my focus. To show those who are or want to be songwriters that there are deliberate approaches to songwriting and the entire songwriting process, AND these techniques have been used for over 75 years.

Experience in your Field:

I started writing songs when I learned to play guitar at age 11. They weren't very good songs, but hey, I was 11. Over the past 30 years I have l learned what it means to write a good song, and in he last 10 years, what it means to write a great song. I have also been privelidged to mentor many songwriters as well as sit as a judge for many songwriting contests. This experience combined with my years in the music industry in Nashville I believe gives me a unique perspective on what it takes to succeed in the songwriting profession.
