Area of Instruction at CPCC: Belly Dance

About me:
I am a scientist by day and a belly dancer by night. Although I'm not a full-time dance professional, I have more than 12 years of experience with different styles of belly dance. At CPCC, I teach a form of belly dance called American Tribal Style™. ATS uses simple movement combinations based on traditional belly dance. Beginners can get started quickly in this style and dance together in group improvisation, while learning key movements that are common to all styles of belly dance, and improving posture, strength and cardiovascular health.

    Career accomplishments:
    • Completed American Tribal Style™ General Skills Certificate in 2011 with Carolina Nericcio and Megha Gavin

    Experience in your field:
    • I have studied belly dance since 2000 with local instructors, and in workshops with nationally known instructors such as Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Jill Parker, Karim Nagi and many others.
    • I am the faculty advisor of the UNC Charlotte Belly Dance Club and have taught classes in belly dance at UNC Charlotte since 2008 and at CPCC since 2010.

      Affiliations/Recognitions:

      • I have also studied many other kinds of dance and movement, including ballroom and Latin dance, African dance and yoga.
