Wondering what to wear to the career fair? In short, you need to be polished and professional to make a great impression.

Attending the Career Fair to find a job? If you are attending the career fair to find a job, think of your encounter with an employer as the first step of an interview. We recommend the following:

  • Clothing should be in conservative colors. Dark, solid, and neutral colors work best!
  • A suit or dress pants/skirt with a jacket can make a great first impression.
  • Close-toed dress shoes should be clean and non-scuffed. Remember you'll be on your feet a lot at the career fair, so choose something comfortable.
  • Keep items in your pockets to a minimum
  • Skirts should be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee, and tops should neither be too low-cut or too tight
  • Hair should be well-groomed
  • Makeup and nail polish should be minimal and natural looking

Attending the Career Fair to learn more about companies in the area? Business casual is appropriate.  Business casual attire includes nice plants/slacks, dresses and skirts that are knee length, blazers and cardigans, and closed-toe shoes.

Some Career Fair Don'ts:

  • Jeans, casual hats, sneakers.
  • Excessive jewelry and unconventional body piercings. Try to cover tattoos if possible.
  • Avoid fragrances.
  • Bad breath is a huge turn off! Be sure your teeth are brushed and your breath is fresh.
  • Try not to carry a backpack if possible. Carry your resumes in a portfolio or folder if you can.
