Co-op is an academic class which blends classroom learning with practical work experience. Instead of attending class in a traditional classroom, students work with an employer, for a semester, in a position directly related to their field of study.
Students are required to have a 2.5 GPA and meet co-op requirements that are determined by the specific department and the state of North Carolina. Co-op is offered in the following programs at Harper: Advertising & Graphic Design, Graphic Arts & Imaging, Welding, Non-destructive Examination, Electrical/Electronics, Construction Management, and Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration.
For additional information, contact Linda Moorer at 704.330.4419.
AIGA is the professional association for graphic designers. It is a national association, and there is a local chapter in Charlotte. I am pleased to inform you that the Charlotte chapter has selected one of our students for its monthly Member Spotlight. Kat Vance is the president of the CPCC AIGA Student Group and is one of the strongest leaders in our program. To my knowledge, this is the first time that a student has been selected for the Member Spotlight. You can see it here at the Web site: www.aigacharlotte.org/blog/post/102. We’re very excited and proud of her!

Do your students need help with research? Sign up for a library instruction class with me! I will come to your classroom and teach your students how to use the library’s catalog and databases, as well as how to get started with research. Classes are completely customizable and can be short (a quick introduction to the library) or a complete class featuring all areas of the library. I prefer to instruct a class in which students are already working on an assignment, so they get the most out of our time together.
Please visit the library’s homepage (www.cpcc.edu/library) to sign up for a class – or stop by the library! Open Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. To get started, contact Julie Chandler Obst, Harper Campus library manager, at ext. 4418.

During November, Professional Development is offering a series of Microsoft Office Basic certificate training courses at each campus to assist employees with gaining valuable Microsoft technical skills they can use in their current position, and prepare them for other opportunities at CPCC. The Microsoft Office Basic certificate is aligned with Administrative Assistants Career Ladders, as well as professional standards. To learn more about the Microsoft Office training series, please visit the certificate webpage located at www.cpcc.edu/pd/training/ms-office-internal-certificates.
To obtain the certificate, employees must complete all four training assessments in the Microsoft Office Basic certificate; however, you can also register for any training at this time and then complete the remaining training over the course of the year.
The Microsoft Office Basic certificate requires completion of the following sessions:
|MS Word - (2.0 hrs) |
MS Excel - (2.0 hrs)
MS PowerPoint - (2.0 hrs)
MS Outlook - (2.0 hrs)
For course descriptions, learner outcomes and exact dates and locations, visit the LearnerWeb Library under MS Certificates. Seating is limited, so register today in LearnerWeb.
