Listed below are a number of the most frequently asked questions in the Business and Accounting division.

What accounting degrees or certificates can I earn at CPCC?
CPCC offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Accounting (A25100) and an Accounting Certificate (A25100-C).  C25100-C1
Who teaches the courses?
There are five full-time faculty members.  The program also employs experienced accountants to teach on a part-time basis.

How long will it take me to complete the program if I attend school full-time?
he A.A.S. degree in accounting consists of a minimum of 72 (73) semester hours of courses.  A student who attends full-time and takes 15-17 (16 – 17) hours per semester should be able to complete the program in two years, including one or two summer terms.

May I complete the program by attending school part-time?
Yes, but it will take longer to earn your degree or certificate.

How long will it take me to complete the program if I attend school part-time?
The time that it takes to complete the program depends entirely on the number of semester hours you complete every semester, which can vary for every individual.  For example, if you complete 9 - 10 semester hours per semester, you will complete the required hours in eight semesters (or about 2 ½ years).  If you complete four semester hours per semester, you will complete the required hours in 18 semesters (or about 6 years).  If you do not take classes every semester the time needed to complete the required hours will be extended.

Is it possible to complete the program by attending only evening courses?
While most courses that are required for completion of the degree are offered in the evenings, it may be necessary to take a few classes on weekends.  Yes.  All the courses required for the completion of the degree are offered in the evenings.  Each program follows a master schedule that indicates when each course is offered.  Check the Course Schedule each semester for course locations and times.

Is it possible to complete the program by attending only weekend classes?
No.  Although some of the required classes are offered on the weekends, it is not currently possible to complete the program by attending only weekend classes.  Check the Course Schedule each semester for course locations and times.

Is it possible to complete the program at one of CPCC’s satellite campuses?
No.  Although some of the required classes are offered at locations other than the central campus Central Campus, it is not currently possible to complete the program at these locations.  Check the Course Schedule each semester for course locations and times.

Are entrance and/or placement exams required?
Entrance exams are not required to attend CPCC.  However, minimum scores on placement exams are prerequisites to certain curriculum courses.

A minimum score on the mathematics placement exam is a prerequisite for the MAT (mathematics) course required in the A.A.S. degree programs.
A minimum score on the English placement exam is a prerequisite for all of the ENG (English) courses required in the A.A.S. degree programs.
A minimum score on the algebra placement test and the reading comprehension test are required for ACC 120.
If the student does not achieve the minimum scores, the student will be required to complete certain advancement studies courses before being allowed to register for the curriculum courses in the area of study for which they did not score high enough.

You should make an appointment to take these placement exams as soon as possible after submitting your application.  Contact the Admissions Center at any of the campuses or area centers, or by calling 330-CPCC (330-2722) to arrange an appointment.  You will not be permitted to register for the required MAT, ENG, or ACC curriculum courses unless you have achieved the minimum score on the appropriate placement exam or have successfully completed the appropriate advancement studies course(s).

I completed some courses at another college.  Will CPCC give me credit for these toward my degree?
In general, CPCC will give you credit for courses taken at other accredited institutions.  This is done on a case by case basis.  To determine if you can get credit for courses taken at another institution, contact the Program Counselor for your program.  The Counseling Office phone number is 330-6426.

In general,CPCC will give you credit for courses taken at other accredited institutions.  To have previous college credits reviewed for transfer, complete a transcript evaluation request form (available from Student Records at any CPCC campus).

Will earning the Associate in Applied Science degree in Accounting qualify me to sit for the CPA exam?
No.  In general, the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam include a bachelor’s degree (with a minimum of 150 semester hours) with at least 30 semester hours in accounting.  You should contact the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners for information about the examination and licensing requirements.

I have earned a bachelor’s degree from another institution.  Do the accounting courses offered at CPCC count towards meeting the requirement that I have a minimum of 30 semester hours in accounting?
Yes.  CPCC is an accredited institution and the hours earned go toward meeting that requirement.  However, it should be noted that not all the ACC courses offered at CPCC will qualify.  It is the responsibility of the student to verify with the NC State Board of CPA Examiners to be sure that the courses you are planning on taking meet their requirements.

How can I get a CPCC catalogue?
The Welcome Center (330-2722) on the Central Campus will mail you a catalogue at your request.  You may also pick up a catalogue in person at the Welcome Center or at any of CPCC’s other campuses.

How much does it cost to attend CPCC?

Tuition and fees are subject to change.  For the most current information, check the Course Schedule or call the Welcome Center (330-2722).

Textbooks and supplies are an additional cost which varies depending on the course.

When can I start the program?
You may start the program at any time, although the Master Schedule is set up based on students beginning the program in Fall Semester.  You may use the Master Schedule to help plan your course schedule.

Does CPCC offer any financial aid?
Yes.  CPCC offers a variety of financial aid.  For additional information on the types of financial aid available and the qualifications to receive financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Office at 330-6942.

How do I enroll in the program?
If you are currently attending CPCC you should contact the counselor for the program that you wish to enter.  The counselor will make the necessary changes to your student records.

What business degrees or certificates can I earn at CPCC?
AAS in Business, Business Management Certificate, AAS in Business with a concentration in Marketing, Marketing Certificate

How long will it take me to complete the program if I attend school full-time?
For an AAS degree two full years, for a certificate one semester.

May I complete the program by attending school part-time?
Absolutely, in fact most of our students are part-time.

How long will it take me to complete the program if I attend school part-time?
That depends upon the number of courses you complete each semester.

Is it possible to complete the program by attending only evening courses?
Yes it is.  The courses are offered in the evenings and at a variety of campus locations.

Is it possible to complete the program by attending only weekend classes?
No it is not.

Is it possible to complete the program at one of CPCC’s satellite campuses?
Yes, you may complete the program at the Levine campus.

Are entrance and/or placement exams required?
Yes you are required to complete a placement exam for the math and for the English classes.

If you are currently attend CPCC you should contact the counselor and they will make the necessary changes to your student records.  If you are a new student or have not taken a class here for two years or more your first step is to submit a completed admissions form.  This may be done online at our web site www.cpcc.edu, through the mail or in person at any campus location.  A copy of the admissions form may be found at any campus location or in the course schedule.

International Business


What degrees or certificates can I earn in International Business at CPCC?
The Associate in Applied Science  (AAS) Degree in International Business (A2512D) and the International Business Certificate (C2512D-C1).

How long does it take to complete the program?
The AAS degree program requires a maximum of 70 semester credit hours.  With careful planning, a student who attends full time, taking 15-17 hours per semester should be able to finish in 2 years, including at least one summer term.   The International Business Certificate requires six specific courses (18 semester credit hours) and can be finished in one or two semesters.  All courses required for the certificate also apply to the degree program.

Can I complete the program by taking evening courses only?
Yes.  All required courses are offered in the evenings.  Taking classes in evenings only will probably increase the time required to finish the degree.

Can I complete the program by taking courses only at one of the satellite campuses?
No.  While many of the required courses are offered at Levine Campus, as well as other campuses, some of the advanced International Business courses are offered at Central Campus only.

Does the program provide language study?
Yes.  Two semesters of language study are required.  Students may study French, German, or Spanish.  Students who are fluent in one of these languages can fulfill the basic language requirement (6 hours) by passing the appropriate CLEP tests.  Foreign students who take Academic EFL courses may substitute those courses for the foreign language requirement.  Students who fulfill their language requirements by either by CLEP or by Academic EFL courses should take a 3 hour Humanities course to meet the humanities and/or language lab requirement.

Are entrance and/or placement exams required?
Entrance exams are not required at CPCC.  Minimum scores on placement exams in English, Mathematics and Reading are prerequisites for certain curriculum courses such as MAT and ENG courses.  Students who do not achieve the required minimum placement scores must complete certain advancement studies courses prior to registration for the curriculum courses that require minimum placement scores.  Upon completion of the Admissions Application, students should contact the Admissions Center at any CPCC campus or call 704.330.2722 to arrange an appointment for placement testing.

Will CPCC give me credit for courses completed at another college?
In general, CPCC will give credit for courses completed at other accredited colleges.  This is done on a case by case basis.  For information about how to begin the transcript-evaluation process, contact the Counseling Office at 704.330.6426 or visit the Counseling Center at any CPCC campus.

How can I get a CPCC catalog to learn more about the International Business Program and the College?

What kinds of companies have jobs for which CPCC International Business graduates qualify?
Program graduates may be considered for jobs in import/export companies, international departments of banks, freight-forwarding companies, customs brokerage companies, export departments of manufacturing companies, U. S. distribution offices of international firms, international shipping companies and certain state and federal government agencies.
