Discipline Chair: Jeff Scaggs, Ed.S., (704) 330-2722X4147,

Welcome to the Psychology Department at Central Piedmont Community College where we have several courses that will meet the needs and interests of students working on two-year programs, those who plan to transfer to four-year institutions and other who are just interested in psychology. Although the content and focus of study differs from class to class, upon completion of our courses all of our psychology students will be able to:

  • Evaluate and explain important psychological theories.
  • Apply psychological knowledge to real-world examples.
  • Select and use information appropriately to investigate a point of view or conclusion.
  • Apply critical thinking in evaluating research in affiliation, attitude formation and change, conformity, altruism, aggression, attribution, and interpersonal attraction.
  • Demonstrate an ability to evaluate concepts and information to support an opinion, solve a problem, or reach a conclusion.

The College Catalogue lists several psychology courses available at CPCC.  However, only General Psychology (PSY 150) is a Universal General Education Transfer Component Course (UGETC).
