Welcome to the History Department at Central Piedmont Community College where we have several courses that will meet the needs and interests of students working on two-year programs, those who plan to transfer to four-year institutions and other who are just interested in history. Although the content and focus of study differs from class to class, upon completion of our courses all of our history students will be able to:

  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data from both primary and secondary sources.
  • Use historical data to formulate historical arguments in a variety of delivery formats.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of course material through classroom discussions.
  • Exhibit an understanding of the timeless, universal, and transferable concepts found throughout history including but not limited to politics, socioeconomics, and culture.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills by formulating and articulating positions on a variety of topics.

The College Catalogue lists several history courses available a CPCC.  However, our main offerings are World Civilizations I (HIS 111), World Civilizations II (HIS 112), American History I (HIS 131), and American History II (HIS 132).  These four courses are all Universal General Education Transfer Component Courses (UGETCs).
