Behavioral and Social Sciences

Welcome to the Behavioral and Social Sciences Division at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC).  In an attempt to help students to understand behavior, society, and the human experience, we offer a variety of general education courses for students working on two-year programs and for those who plan to transfer to four-year institutions. There are courses available in the following disciplines: Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

Our instructors have advanced degrees in their areas of expertise.  Our classes are affordable and offered on different campuses during the day and in the evenings.  Courses are offered in the traditional face-to-face format and online. This flexibility enables us to meet the many needs of our diverse student population.

The division supports programs at the college and in the local community such as the "Trail of History" television series on WTVI-PBS Charlotte and participates in the annual CPCC Sensoria Festival.

Our Vision

The Behavioral and Social Sciences Division of CPCC seeks to provide all students with a fundamental knowledge of Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology, through our excellence in teaching.

Our Mission

The Behavioral and Social Sciences Division of CPCC seeks to encourage, engage, and empower Behavioral and Social Science students through innovative online and f-2-f teaching strategies as well as a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs.  We strive to provide high-quality, rigorous, and relevant courses to create life-long learners who will in turn strengthen the economic, social, and cultural life of our diverse community. Our division fosters a creative learning environment for students and faculty and encourages critical thinking and personal growth.
