MATH Subcommittee - African American Males
Quantitative Data Analyzed:
Percentage of African-American males enrolled in math courses in Fall 2009.
Major Findings of Data Analysis:
The percentage of AA males enrolled in math courses is similar to that of the general population (14%) in MAT050 and MAT060, then declines in later courses. (While the percentage of AA females also declines, the percentage enrolled is greater than or equal to the population percentage.)
Others include Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Non-residents
Other Information Regarding the Decision Making Process:
Based on the American Community Survey of the US Census for 2009 (http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/ADPTable?_bm=y&-geo_id=05000US37119&-qr_name=ACS_2008_3YR_G00_DP3YR5&-ds_name=ACS_2008_3YR_G00_&-_lang=en&-_sse=on) ,
Suggested Qualitative Data Needed:
Identify the causes of the enrollment drop, particularly after MAT070 (and to some degree, after MAT060).
