As flu season approaches, one of our priorities at CPCC is the health and safety of our students, staff and visitors. Therefore, we are taking steps to help prevent the spread of flu at CPCC, but we need your help to accomplish this. We are working closely with the Mecklenburg County health department to monitor flu conditions and will keep you updated with new information as it becomes available to us. In the event of a severe flu outbreak, the College has guidelines and an emergency plan in place for the safety of our students and staff and will disseminate important information as it becomes available. Remember, if you are sick, please stay home!

Influenza (commonly called the “flu”) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. The information below describes how to stop the spread of germs, common flu symptoms, and what to do if you think you may have the flu.
Stop the Spread of Germs That Make You and Others Sick
  • Cover your mouth: When you sneeze or cough, cough into your upper sleeve, use tissues and discard properly, afterwards.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, clean with alcohol based hand sanitizer. Clean hands after using the restroom, before you eat, before touching your eyes, mouth, or nose, after shaking hands or handling money
  • Keep a social distance of at least 3 feet
Be Aware of Common Flu Symptoms
Influenza symptoms may include
  • Fever (usually high)
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Tiredness
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Body aches
  • Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults)

Having these symptoms does not automatically mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the common cold, can have similar symptoms.

Diagnosing the Flu
If you have developed flu-like symptoms and think that you may have the flu, you should consult your healthcare provider. For the health of your classmates and co-workers please stay home until you have been free from a fever for at least 24 hours.
